Manisamouth Ratana Koumphon was born in Vientiane and grew up between Laos, France, Thailand and China. At the age of 15, she attended the Prytanée National Militaire de La Flèche high school. She has a Master’s Degree in Ethnology on the kham muang folk songs of Jaran Manophet and a Ph.D in Anthropology and Sociology on the traditions of the temple Great-Drums of Tai Buddhist people in the Golden Quadrangle. She now divides her time between Laos and France.
